We know that the SLX is still technically considered Shimano's performance mountain drivetrain effective and affordable. It's never been called the sexiest or easiest group set but so far he has occupied his niche admirably. However, after a major overhaul presented by Shimano this year we can no longer call it. Technically, SLX is still below XTR and XT but after receiving a host of cutting-edge technologies and an impressive upgrade, this groupset has significantly raised the bar for what which means "workhorse".

Shimano left no part of the groupset untouched and so the SLX M7000's 1x chainring has received many interesting modifications to skillfully interact with the new SLX 1x11 crankset. 1x sprocket, having the same Dynamic Chain Engagement (DCE) tooth profile like its siblings XTR and XT boasts significantly better chain retention than its predecessors. The teeth grab the chain fiercely but don't pull you down and their stainless steel construction provides increased strength and durability which matches the Shimano pedigree.
