After more than 30 years of the original Summicron-M 50 mm f/2 (which is still in production) Leica presents a completely new development. Although outwardly this lens is almost indistinguishable from the old version it is far superior optically. The lens circuit includes 8 elements in 5 groups , 3 of which are with anomalous partial dispersion 2 more - with a high refractive index and 1 element with an aspherical surface. The key feature of the lens is the high image contrast across the entire frame area and the almost complete absence of all types of aberrations (the result of apochromatic correction). Using a "floating element" changing its position when focusing allows you to achieve excellent results when shooting close-up. The contrast value for the smallest details exceeds 50% delivering extremely sharp images with excellent detail reproduction. Lens vignetting is kept to a minimum: only 2 stops on 35mm cameras at full aperture. When stopped down to f/2. 8 Vignetting is reduced to natural almost imperceptible level. Linear distortion (only 0.4%) also does not pose any problems.
