In 1996, Bonamassa purchased a red 1962 Gibson ES-335 and used it to record his first solo album, A New Day Yesterday.. In 2001, he sold his guitar to finance his move to Los Angeles But as the 20th anniversary of Bonamassa's first record approached, a strange twist of fate and an unexpected phone call led to that he was reunited with his old friend - the same red ES. -335 which propelled him into his first solo performance and introduced him to a new life on the West Coast.
