Special microfiber grills

The R Series has been designed to work with or without grills. Special microfiber grills are made of several layers of material and feel like suede.. Featuring 1801 precision holes for each driver performance is guaranteed even with closed emitters. Magnetic mounts provide a secure and precise fit in keeping with the clean R Series style.

Uni-Q driver

Uni-Q technology is the building block of KEF's signature sound. Designed for maximum performance 12th Gen Uni-Q driver array acts as a single point source expanding the “sweet spot” and distributing sound more evenly allowing everyone who is in different parts of the room get the same sensations, natural detailed sound.

Metamaterial Absorbent Technology (MAT)

MAT is a very complex structure reminiscent of a labyrinth which absorbs a total of 99% of unwanted sound energy while traditional absorbers such as synthetic winterizer provide only 60% absorption.

Deep dynamic bass

Bass is a vital element of performance and R Series low frequency drivers have been designed with the utmost care and precision. They are built using a two-piece design where a shallow concave aluminum shell sits on top of a paper cone. This rigidity, combined with the unique cone geometry, reduces unwanted resonances and promotes piston-like motion which makes these drivers work so well. Magnetic speaker system creates a wide, uniform magnetic field and the suspension reduces harmonic distortion for clear, precise sound. The result is exceptionally deep and agile bass , which reveals all the smallest details and impacts available in bass.

Shadow Flare

Shadow Flare is another feature originally developed for the Reference line. It reduces harmful body diffraction allowing 12th Gen Uni-Q with MAT to perform to its maximum potential. Shadow Flare is a specially designed surface which extends the waveguide effect of the Uni-Q driver array. Special Shadow Flare ring pad radically reduces diffraction effects appearing on the edges of the speaker body. The result is improved clarity and fine detail reproduction that make listening so exciting. Subtle nuances of plucked strings changes in vibrato in the voice are all heard even more clearly with the R Series.

Internal bracing system

Powerful drivers can easily cause the walls of the case to make their own noise - noise which was never recorded. Working together with a special arrangement of internal braces KEF Constrained Layer Damping is a complex bracing system which ensures the inertia of the body connecting the spacers to the drivers and housing via a lossy interface. This material converts vibration into heat , thanks to which the body produces the only sound it needs - the sound of silence.
