Inside the sole there is a gel base with gel molecules , which ensures that when walking slowly you walk barefoot on a sponge since the force between molecules is small. But as soon as you increase the speed molecules begin to move and inside the sole there is a kind of cross-linking of molecules. Within a few milliseconds, the soft gel turns into a highly elastic solid which provides maximum elasticity without becoming unpleasantly hard. If you slow down again it will only take a few seconds and the gel base will become soft and smooth again.
