Our exclusive tungsten sustain blocks for the Floyd Rose tremolo bridge are the highest density available in the block that matches the original size specifications of your Floyd Rose bridge. When it comes to sustainability , the most important property of a metal is its density followed by hardness. Tungsten is more than 4 times denser than titanium and more than twice as dense as brass. To match the weight of our tungsten sustainblock you will need a titanium block 4 times the size of our tungsten block and a brass block twice the size of our tungsten block.
Most standard tremolo spring chambers are simply not large enough. for placing bulky sustain blocks sold by other companies. Our block is a direct replacement for the standard sustain block increasing the weight of your bridge to half a pound.
Why density and mass are important for sound and sustain ? Fixed guitar bridge effectively transfers string vibration from the bridge to the body through a large contact area but the tremolo bridge is limited to a few very small attachment points. The tremolo springs cause the bridge to lose most of its resonance. because springs absorb and dissipate vibration very well. This is one of the reasons according to which expensive studio microphones are suspended on springs to isolate external vibrations. High density sustain block means more mass which means less string vibration transferred to the springs and more to the bridge to which it belongs.
