The new brakes are redesigned and use the same new rotary mechanism providing a linear feel and incredibly even distribution of power from the lever to the braking surface of the rim.

Like the top-of-the-line Dura-Ace BR-9100 brake calipers Shimano creates the 105 with a true dual-pivot design unlike older versions using a mounting bolt as a second hinge. Instead, the 7000 has a rear mounting plate with a center bolt for frame mounting. Brake levers have a thinner profile and greater rigidity which contributes to more efficient braking. The body stop and quick release mechanism are still located on the side and the barrel adjuster makes it easy to compensate for sag due to worn pads or personal preference.
